IMPORTANCE OF SOIL
Soil is among the most critical elements needed for the health and strength of your bonsai. The right soil must supply your tree with nutrients whilst promoting proper drainage and water retention. It should also allow proper aeration to roots.
Unhealthy trees are steadily planted in a poor Bonsai soil. Or worse, planted in normal garden soil, or “dirt”. Garden soil hardens easily when it gets dry, which can inhibit the growth of your bonsai. Bonsai trees do not like dirt and will most likely die if left in dirt for long periods of time.

WATERING
Each micro climate may require different amounts of water.
On very hot and/or dry days, you may need to water two/three times.
On very cold and/or freezing days, you may need to water every week or two.
Paying attention to your bonsai’s moisture level is very important. Push your finger 1″ into the soil and feel for moisture. If the soil is dry, it’s time to water.
