What the experts say about Seramis

For several years now, Seramis has been used extensively within the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It has been in use both inside and outside the Princess of Wales Conservatory, but it’s main uses have been in the nurseries behind the scenes where it has been used in the propagation of many different types of tropical and temperate plants.

One of the senior botanical horticulturalists in the Tropical Section has been using Seramis for propagation and cultivation of many of the species in his section. It is being used in a variety of mixtures, from 30% Seramis mixed with other compost constituents, up to 100% Seramis for some of the trickier to grow varieties.

He reported that the stable structure of Seramis, together with its water absorption properties are proving very beneficial to us in our composts. It makes it very much easier to control the moisture levels, and speeds the uptake of water while ensuring good drainage and availability of oxygen at the root forming area.

Seramis has been in use at the RHS Garden, Wisley for years with great success.

One of their superintendents started using 100% Seramis with a cycas in a pot, and the plant can still be seen thriving just inside the main entrance of the glasshouses. He then moved on to use Seramis with a range of cacti in a sealed bench, as one of several displays showing different growing media for cacti.

They wanted to show the cacti growing in different growing media and thought it would be good to show them growing in Seramis, as it is a product that is commercially available. Seramis is easy to manage and it is difficult to over-water the plants. Seramis is particularly good for cacti as they quickly develop a good root system. It is clean and easy to use and the plants establish easily. They also found they don’t get weed anchorage on the surface of the Seramis, as they do with the soil based media.

They have used Seramis in some outside containers, mixed with potting compost, and again the plants did very well. We were told that that one of the good thing is that it is very easy to get started with Seramis.

Seramis - granules, feed and watering indicators - is once again available in the UK. It is easy, clean and quick. and the plants establish and thrive quickly and are much easier to care for.

Office Greenery
Interior landscape people say that they are amazed by how rapidly large specimen plants potted into Seramis rooted into the substrate, showing few of the usual signs of stress normally associated with transplantation.
