Using Seramis - the Patio, Roof Gardens & Alpines
Hanging Baskets And Patio Containers

Mixing Seramis granules with compost in your outdoor containers and hanging baskets improves drainage and water retention – so it helps reduce watering frequency in the summer and prevents water-logging in the winter.

The surface of containers planted with ordinary compost will harden in dry‚ warm weather so that when you re-water most of the water just runs off or over the sides. If you mix Seramis with your compost‚ and in very hot weather put a thick layer of Seramis on the top‚ you will stop the hardening, this make it much easier to re-water.

Mixing - in the proportion of 1 part Seramis : 2 parts compost will improve porosity and reduce compaction, allowing more air to the roots to promote growth. Feed as required with proprietary plant food.

The Seramis granules will never compact or break down – if you want to you can even sieve them out and re-use them indefinitely.

Roof Gardens

Seramis is an excellent medium for roof gardens because it is substantially lighter in weight than compost and it can be used at approximately half the depth of compost. It also absorbs much more water than compost, so reducing the amount of water required in all weathers.

With a dry weight of only 20kg per square meter at 40mm depth (enough for a lawn) up to 200kg per square meter at 400mm depth, Seramis puts much less strain on the roof structure, so reducing the potential of structural failure.

Using Seramis gives you the opportunity for using a wider range of plants in your roof garden.

Seramis is already being used successfully on both domestic and commercial roof gardens in Germany, including the new Dorint Hotel in Cologne.

Alpines

Seramis is excellent for growing alpines, providing the free-draining structure they need, while reducing watering frequency in summer.

The porous granules are sterile, stable, organic and biologically and chemically neutral.

Many traditionally difficult to grow alpines will succeed in 100% Seramis or with Seramis as a major constituent of the compost.

Cuttings will also root more quickly and reliably in Seramis
