ORCHIDS
Indoors: many orchids‚ including Cymbidium‚ Epidendrum‚ Phalaenopsis‚ Paphiopedilum and Miltonia can be grown very successfully in Seramis.

Orchids need particularly good aeration of the root system which is difficult to obtain in many composts‚ but is one of the key benefits of Seramis.

In watertight containers - water at the same rate as other houseplants from April until the end of September using the watering indicator to tell you when to water.

Feed with Seramis Liquid Plant Food (red top) at one third the strength indicated on the bottle as orchids die quickly from water–logging or over feeding.

From October until the end of March‚ keep in a cool (night minimum 10-15° C)‚ well lit place. Keep just moist by giving half the recommended quantity of water with no feed added when the watering indicator turns red.

Outdoors: many reputable growers of hardy orchids use a compost of four parts Seramis to one part composted bark which allows for very free draining.

Frequent watering is required‚ but it is very successful. A watering indicator is not really necessary in free draining containers‚ but some growers do recommend using them anyway‚ particularly if you are not used to orchids.

The UK’s rarest native orchid, the Ladies Slipper Orchid was weaned very successfully from the test tube to the point of re-introduction to the wild in this mix.
